This lime kiln was built in 1916 to meet the need for burnt lime during the First World War (since it was difficult to obtain from abroad). The lime kiln was in use until the 1950s.

Behind the lime burner you will also find the quarry behind Kalkbranderij, with a few entrances to the left and west of the lime kiln. This quarry is in a rather dilapidated state, parts of the ceiling have already come loose.

If you choose the adventurous path that leads to the top of the lime burner, you will find the quarry in the Dole room. Seen from the road, this quarry is located directly behind the lime kilns, higher up the slope. This quarry was only briefly mined in 1931, the mining was stopped due to unsafe situations in the quarry.

Lime was burned in this lime kiln to produce quicklime. Lime kilns are often located close to the place where the lime was extracted, in this case right next to the Curfs quarry.
