The Vering Canal is an approximately 1.6 km (including the Outer Vering Canal 2.0 km) long navigable canal in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg.
It was built in 1894 by the contractors Carl and Hermann Vering as a private canal to develop the Reiherstieg district and runs in a north-south direction.
At the southern end it is connected to the Reiherstieg, a side arm of the Elbe, via the Veringschleuse and the Outer Vering Canal.
Originally there was also a connection to the Ernst August Canal in the north.
During the construction of the canal, older drainage ditches (weather) and natural waterways such as e.g. For example, the former mouth of the Stillhorner Elbe was included and at the same time the surrounding area was raised to make it flood-proof.
Parallel to the canal, Veringstraße in the east and Industriestraße in the west were laid out as landside access routes for the industrial companies to be newly established.
