In the heart of Trittau's historic center, bordering the Hahnheide nature reserve, lies the watermill with its millpond. It is Trittau's landmark and is now used as a cultural center.
The current mill building was constructed in 1701, but a water-powered grain mill has been documented at this location since the 16th century. However, the mill site itself is much older. Shortly after Trittau Castle was built in 1327, the mills surrounding the castle were likely constructed as well. These included the water-powered grain mill and a sawmill,
which no longer exists.

The old watermill is idyllically located in the middle of Trittau. It was built in 1701 on the old Mühlenplatz and is Trittau's landmark. Until the end of the 19th century, the surrounding farmers were only allowed to grind their grain here. Grain has not been processed in the Trittau watermill since 1963. The building, which is over 300 years old, is now a cultural center with events and ongoing exhibitions of contemporary art.
