A hike around the idyllic Mönchsteich is a clear recommendation at any time of year. Here on the south bank, the narrow path leads along the bank, with fantastic views. On the north bank, a wider path leads along, from which you can also have beautiful views. All around the pond there are always very nice small and free bathing areas - also for our four-legged friends.

The Mönchsteich is a lake southeast of the village of Lütjensee. It is around 24 hectares in size and up to 2.9 m deep. The lake is fed by the Großensee via the Stenzenbek - an artificial cut south of the Schleushörn restaurant. A hiking trail leads around the lake, but in the northwest part it does not run directly along the lake; there is a fountain system from Hamburg Wasser here that is not open to the public. The lake is particularly popular with nudists as a bathing lake, but due to its shallow depth there are many plants in the water that can impair bathing.

In February 2021, the Mönchsteich was so frozen that you could walk on the ice. I've posted a few photos.
