The town hall was built in 1801-1804 by the architect Christian Friedrich Hansen (1756-1845) as a single-storey building in the classicism style after the fire in 1798.
In 1869 it was increased for the Prussian district court.
In 1905 the western extension followed and in 1936 a restorative redesign.
In 1955, the hall was extended to the north on the ground floor and structural repairs were carried out between 1986 and 1987.
