Charlottenlund Recreational Park (Charlottenlund aktivitets- og friluftspark) is an important recreational area on Tromsøya and part of the green network that stretches from north to south along the top of the island. Charlottenlund was previously primarily attractive for winter activities, but with the New Charlottenlund initiative, the area has been given elements that mean it is also used in the summer months.
Charlottenlund Park is located in a landscape with surrounding forest. To the north is a spruce-covered hill that acts as a climate screen against the cold north wind, while the south-facing slope catches the sun and provides a view of the mountains to the south. The plain itself, which is the most developed part, is framed by a red running track. Outside this track, most of it is overgrown and has natural qualities that are well worth preserving.
New Charlottenlund has areas for skiing, a ball binge, sand volleyball courts, fire pits, a shelter, a climbing tower, a play forest, an obstacle course, a pump track and climbing rocks. In the centre of the plain is the artificial turf pitch, which is used for various ball games in summer and for ice skating in winter. Year of construction: 2016-2018.
