The Kruidtuin in Leuven is the oldest botanical garden in Belgium. The University of Leuven created it in 1738 for its medical students. Lovers of plants and herbs can indulge themselves in the diverse collections.
In the 450 m² greenhouse complex, you will find numerous herbaceous plants, herbs, water and container plants, as well as a variety of tropical and subtropical species.
On an area of more than 2 ha, there is an extensive collection of trees, shrubs and bushes.
In addition to the collection of herbaceous plants, herbs, water and container plants, the greenhouse complex exhibits a variety of tropical and subtropical species. This garden is beautiful in all seasons, with different flowers to be seen here in each season.

The building from 1744 was designed by J.A. Hustin and co-financed by H.R. Rega, then rector of the KU Leuven. The aim: to create the ideal conditions for research and observation of the human body. The students sat around on the now disappeared wooden stands to be able to follow the lessons.

The style is late baroque with rococo features, as the decoration of the dome vault shows.

In addition to the theatre, there are two rooms that served as a storage and pantry. The building has been protected as a monument since 1999.
