The tower remains in the city park of Leuven are a remnant of the first Romanesque city wall of the city. The wall was 2750 meters long and had 31 towers. When the Sint-Donatuspark (or city park) was constructed in the nineteenth century, this part of the ring wall was preserved as a romantic element. The tower was recently restored, which means that another part of the wall was restored to its original state.

The first stone wall of Leuven dates from the middle of the 12th century, more specifically from the period 1156-1165.

Since February 2024, the historic city wall in the Sint-Donatuspark has been restored. This goes much further than just the immediately visible tower fragment.

The remains of the first rampart at the height of the Sint-Donatuspark are inventoried as follows: "Between the Tiensestraat and Naamsestraat, in the Sint-Donatiuspark, a wall fragment and 2 towers protected as a monument by Royal Decree of 1.03.1978. Wall fragment of approximately 135 m long, approximately 3 meters high. On the original city side, several owners of the adjacent plots have raised the wall with bricks over time. Here and there also built-in doors. Tower fragment that connects to the wall. Height approximately 8 meters. Missing battlements. On the original field side (park side) use of white sandstone and brown iron sandstone. Beveled foot. Brick on the inside since 1727. The then owner Ant. Brenaert demolishes the tower section in his garden and then rebuilds it. Freestanding tower fragment in the vicinity of the pond."
