The so-called "Leaning House", a popular photo motif on the Upper Bridge, is partly supported by a flow pillar made of large sandstone blocks, which can be attributed to a lost stone bridge from the 12th century. Accordingly, the building has different foundations, which led to the house leaning towards the river.
If you only look at the facade, you will notice the significant lowering of the wall made of sandstone blocks that was built in 1822. But the building is worth a second look: from Habergasse, the basement floors with their mighty corbels show us that the slant cannot affect the entire house.
The current building dates from 1603, as a date on the corbel on the canal suggests. At that time it belonged to the carver Hans Wolf. The ground floor later served as a shop, which was enlarged by gutting in 1938.
