The Tønder water tower (German: Tondern) is a clinker brick tower at the Tøndermarsken site, a short distance from today's modern town hall in the small town of Tønder in Syddanmark. The water tower was built in 1902 to provide the necessary water pressure, resulting from the tower height, for the water supply in the municipality of Tønder.
The tower is 40 meters high and has a slight taper in the diameter of the rising masonry part. While the upper part of the water tower has a cylindrical shape. At the time when the tower was used for water supply, the upper tower body had a container with a maximum capacity of 250 m³ to hold water. The tower construction was built internally over seven floors. Windows have been installed on two levels on the tapered lower tower shaft, each with a pair of windows facing east-west and north-south. Above the roof of the tower, the top of the tower was adorned with a metal weather vane with the inscription “1902”, which was a decorative ornament due to the year the tower was built, but also served as a support for the top conductor for lightning protection.

After it was decommissioned as a water tower, it was decided to use it as a museum in the 1980s. A charitable foundation based on A.P. Møller and H.C. Mc-Kinney Møller (Maersk), a few years later donated an amount equivalent to around 10 million euros for the renovation and rededication of the tower.[3] Today it houses the Hans Wegner Museum, which was named after the local manufacturer of chair furniture and illustrates the development of seating furniture with a collection of chair models that are all uniquely designed. Since the renovation and rededication of the water tower, the top of the tower has had a weather vane with the inscription “Museum”.

The water tower of Tondern plays an outstanding role in the truest sense of the word. It is part of the local museum, which has a furniture exhibition on 8 floors.

The water tower was built in 1902, unfortunately we could not find any information about its height. However, from the top you have a great view of Tondern and the Danish marshes.
