        Galerius makes Thessaloniki his residence city. To honor a triumphal arch is being built in Thessaloniki, which is to show his victory against the Persians under their king Narses. The triumphal arch of Galerius is also called Kamara among the Thessalonians. Three columns from the triumphal arch are still preserved today. Originally it was a double parallel arch that supported a dome. The current triumphal arch is 12 m high and 30 m wide.

          The Arch of Galerius is a late Roman triumphal arch in Thessaloniki from 303 AD.

          The Roman Emperor C. Galerius Valerius Maximianus was born around 250 AD to a peasant family near Sofia. He entered military service at an early age and soon made a name for himself for his ability. Emperor Diocletian made him Caesar of the East Roman Empire and married him to his daughter Valeria in 293. When the Persians crossed the Tigris in 297, Galerius challenged the opponents to a battle without the emperor's prior consent. This resulted in a defeat for the Romans, but the Roman army invaded Armenia the following year and defeated the Persian king Narses. In return, Galerius received permission to erect a triumphal arch in Thessaloniki.
