The city's landmark served to defend the imperial palace.
It is named so because of the slate roof, which shimmers blue when the sun shines on it.
In the 19th century, the tower was expanded to include turrets.
The tower is also known for its 134-step, 43-square-meter watchman's apartment, where the watchman has lived since the 13th century - and still does today.

The Blue Tower is the city's landmark. It was built around 1170 as the western keep of the royal palace and served the former imperial city of Wimpfen as a high watchtower with a once high entrance on the east side.
