The Postigo do Carvão is the last remaining city gate of the medieval walls of Porto, Portugal. It is located on the banks of the Douro River in Ribeira, the historic center of the city. The gate played an important role in the city's trade as it provided access to the harbor and warehouses for goods, particularly coal (hence the name "coal gate"). Today it is a historical monument and landmark that commemorates Porto's rich history.
