The fairytale trail leads over 5.7 kilometers to thirteen stations with various tree stories and legends surrounding Lauenstein. Simply follow the gnome signs.
At the station "The White Lady," the legend of Katharina von Orlamünde, who grew up at Lauenstein Castle, is told. As the wife of the Count of Orlamünde, she came to Kulmbach at the age of 18 to the Plassenburg Castle. When her husband died soon after, she considered marrying Albrecht, the Burgrave of Nuremberg. Due to a misunderstanding, she stabbed her two children from her first marriage, believing they would stand in the way of her remarriage. Pardoned by the Pope, she was forced to spend the rest of her life behind convent walls. She cursed the House of Hohenzollern and announced that by appearing as the "White Lady," she would bring them eternal misfortune.
