The theater in neoclassical style was built in the same location after the previous theater was demolished in 1908 according to plans by Fellner & Helmer and was ceremoniously opened on October 2, 1909 in the presence of Archduke Rainer. Since the imperial family did not financially support the construction of the theater, it was only called the Jubliäums-Stadttheater and not the Kaiser-Jubliäums-Stadttheater.

Since the emperor did not contribute to the construction costs, the Kaiser Franz Joseph Jubilee City Theater simply became the Jubilee City Theater. A typical Austrian solution.
