Büsum
South of St. Peter-Ording is the Büsum station in Dithmarschen. The sea rescue cruiser THEODOR STORM operates from there. However, when there is a risk of storm surges, it is "outside" because Büsum is then protected from the threatening floods by a barrier. The Büsum harbor is still the berth for numerous crab fishermen. The Büsum sea rescuers are therefore mainly deployed for fishing vessels.
As the second largest harbor (after Brunsbüttel) on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast, Büsum attracts many vacationers. A boat trip from here to Heligoland is possible. Several times a year, the THEODOR STORM is deployed for guests who have underestimated the power of the North Sea and its very strong current while walking in the mudflats or swimming. First mate Jörg Lüdtke and his crew of six other sea rescuers also take volunteer sea rescuers on board if necessary.

The THEODOR STORM
Equipped with a 20-meter cruiser, where no one lives on board, the crew moved into the old lock house directly at the berth on the west side of the harbor near the beach in 2008. Sandra Carstensen, wife of the then Schleswig-Holstein Prime Minister Peter-Harry Carstensen, christened the THEODOR STORM in August 2011 after the name of the great North German writer. The work boat is called NIS PUK, aptly named after a helpful legendary figure.
