The beautiful nature reserve Reindersmeer is located in Well (municipality Bergen) and is now part of the National Park De Maasduinen. The Reindersmeer originated in the 1960s as a result of sand mining. At that time, they had begun to win industrial sand for the concrete industry. The Reindersmeer and the Leukermeer emerged from the former sandpits. In contrast to the Leukermeer, where swimming and fishing are allowed, the Reindersmeer is an ecologically sensitive natural landscape.
In the area numerous beautiful hiking and biking trails have been created. A secret tip is the hiking route The Reindersmeer in 4 or 7 km. Half way there, you can cross the lake by means of a ferry (which you must serve yourself). A fabulous experience!
You should not miss the visitor center De Maasduinen! This unique building literally hangs in the old lock basin that connects the Reindersmeer with the Leukermeer. In the visitor wing you can get detailed information about the area and also take a snack.

Located in the middle of the "de maasduinen" national park, the former gravel pit invites you to hike, bike and enjoy.
Restaurants and an information center explain what once was here. There is plenty of free parking available.
