The almost four-metre-high bronze statue entitled Moments Contained (2022) by British artist Thomas J Price is the starting point for the Rotterdam sculpture route that continues via the sculpture terrace on the Westersingel to Rotterdam-Zuid.

On the Stationsplein there is an almost four-metre-high bronze statue of a young woman entitled Moments Contained (2023) made by the British artist Thomas J Price. Stichting Droom en Daad purchased the statue in 2022 and is donating the artwork to Rotterdam. Moments Contained is about the feeling of being dismissed as ‘the other’. At first glance, the woman seems stoic, but the imprint of her knuckles in her trouser pockets shows that she is not actually as nonchalant as she seems. This statue shows that she is strong and self-assured, but at the same time also vulnerable. Captured in this one moment of almost four metres of material power in bronze. In this way, Moments Contained indicates a moment, an opportunity for understanding, connection and empathy. It stands for the emotions and the recognition thereof, even if the other does not resemble you, according to Price in an interview with curator Shehera Grot in the Kunstbode. The unveiling of Moments Contained took place on Friday 2 June 2023 in the presence of Gunay Uslu (State Secretary of Culture and Media), Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb and artist Thomas J Price. For this occasion, Sheree Lenting is creating a choreography. The sculpture will be placed on the Stationsplein for five years, after which this location will be evaluated. Moments Contained is part of Sculpture International Rotterdam.

In early June 2023, “Moments Contained,” a new twelve-foot-tall public sculpture by British artist Thomas J Price, was unveiled in the square in front of Rotterdam Central Station. She represents a fictional woman who, for the artist, is supposed to embody resilience, self-confidence and vulnerability. Very well done and worth seeing!
