The double-walled city, completely enclosed by the town, with numerous defensive towers and the western gate as a city gate, was built in the 14th century and renovated in the 16th century. The eastern sub-gate no longer exists. The kennel between the two city walls is now occupied by private gardens. The outer city wall is completely accessible. The inner city wall consists of the outer walls of the townhouses.
The parish church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption (Assumption of Mary) was built from 1320 to 1347, the interior was redecorated in 1718 baroque. Side chapel and sacristy are neo-Gothic. The tympanum shows an adoration of the kings. In 1959 frescoes from the year 1480 were rediscovered during a restoration. The large Rinkenbach organ from 1903 was installed in a neo-Baroque housing from 1879, but the original sculptures from 1740 were used (Wikipedia)

The medieval fortification surrounding Bergheim, with its double walled ring and nine towers, is partially preserved, especially in its western, northern and southern parts; of the former four city gates, however, only the Porte Haute at the western exit of the community exists.

The mighty city wall has been almost completely preserved to this day. The barbicans in the east and west of the city, as well as the gate tower in the east of the city, are no longer visible today.
