Kenesa has been standing since the 14th century. help in the territory of the Karaite population, in the Small City. 16th century Ave. it burned down and was rebuilt in 1533. After that several more times until the 18th century. demolished and rebuilt. 1727 and in 1773 the building was damaged, then repaired. Kenesa burned in the fire of 1794. The Karaites of Sluck and Crimea helped to rebuild it with their donations. In 1812, the kenes was burned by French soldiers passing through Traki. After the last fire in 1824, it was intended to build a brick kenesa, but due to lack of funds, a wooden one was built again. 1903-1904 it was reconstructed according to the project prepared in 1898-1899. The works were carried out on the initiative of the Karaite cleric Felix Maleckis and with the collected funds. Engineer Mikhail Prozorov also contributed to the work. There was a school near the Kenesa. In 1997, Trakai kenesa was restored for the first time after the war according to the last reconstruction project. The building belongs to the Karaite community of Trakai.

The Karaite prayer house, the Kenessa, can only be visited by group by prior arrangement. Its structure and furnishings are reminiscent of a synagogue. Right next door is the interesting museum about this small ethnic group.
