In 1898 the reception building of the former “Royal Prussian Station in Kupferdreh” was built. After all station operations were shut down in 1967/1968, the “Lukas” restaurant is now housed in the listed building.

The handsome station building at Kupferdreh station was designed in 1897 and built as a replacement for a former station at the turn of the 20th century on the Prinz Wilhelm railway. According to the need for representation, the long sides of the two-storey red brick building are decorated in a decorative way. In particular, the different window groupings and sizes, as well as the articulated entrance hallway with round arch, decorated with ocher-colored sandstone elements lend the station a charming appearance. Inside, the decor of the waiting rooms is partially preserved; particularly impressive is the stucco decoration in the waiting room of the first class. The building is today a renowned event gastronomy.

In 1877, the Pörtingssiepen colliery was connected and the line from Kupferdreh to Hesperbrück station on Hammer Straße was re-gauged to standard gauge. The remaining narrow-gauge section to Hefel was shut down in 1918. From 1927 until the Pörtingssiepen colliery was closed in 1973, non-public passenger transport was provided for the mine workers. ..."

OLD TRAIN STATION COPPER TURNING
The representative suburban station was built in 1898 and no longer has a transport function today. The brick building is worth seeing inside and out, especially the waiting room with its stucco decoration.

On certain days, the historic Hespertalbahn, which is maintained and restored by an association, is opened to the public. The starting point is at the old train station in Essen-Kupferdreh, which has been lovingly restored and where the restaurant “LUKA” is located. The journey then leads along Lake Baldeney to the end point at Haus Scheppen.
