Wenn du die über 250-jährige spannende Industriegeschichte der Region erkunden und erleben möchtest, begib dich auf den faszinierenden DeilbachSteig. Auf rund 33 Kilometern verbindet er die drei Städte Essen, Hattingen und Velbert und führt dich durch landschaftliche Schönheiten, die wunderbare Aussichten bereithalten. Namensgeber ist der Deilbach im gleichnamigen Tal, heute eine der interessantesten Kulturlandschaften des Ruhrgebietes. Neben den technischen Denkmälern aus dieser Zeit führt der Wanderweg zudem zu noch älteren Bauwerken und Ruinen, die Zeugnis von der spannenden Kulturgeschichte dieser Region ablegen.

Wer hätte gedacht, dass Steinkohleabbau so spannend sein kann? Startpunkt unserer Tour ist das Gelände der Zeche Zollverein – einst eine der größten Zechen weltweit, heute UNESCO-Welterbe. Wir staunen nicht schlecht als wir sehen, unter welchen extremen Bedingungen früher unter Tage und in der Kokerei gearbeitet wurde. Eine Führung durch das Gelände ist unbedingt zu empfehlen! Im Vergleich zu den letzten beiden Tagen ist die Route deutlich urbaner. Auf der Tour durch Altenessen wird der Strukturwandel im Ruhrgebiet mit jedem Schritt deutlicher: Wo früher Industrieanlagen standen, spazieren wir heute durch Parks und Grünanlagen – auch wenn der Blick auf die Autobahn zwischendurch nicht ausbleibt. 😉 Ein weiteres Highlight ist die Schurenbachhalde. Die einzigen Höhenmeter des Tages führen uns auf die mittlerweile dicht bewachsene Halde, die sich zu einem Eldorado für Mountainbiker entwickelt hat. Oben angekommen, erinnert uns das Plateau an eine Mondlandschaft und gleichzeitig haben wir einen grandiosen Ausblick auf das Ruhrgebiet. ____ Der komplette ZollvereinSteig ist 26,4 Kilometer lang, lässt sich aber problemlos abkürzen.
