The castle ruins were first mentioned in a document in 1277 as a noble residence in Kronenburg, namely as the property of Mr. Gerlach von Dollendorf and Kronenburg. As early as the 18th century, the complex was quite dilapidated and no longer inhabited. After the French occupation of the Rhineland, it was misused as a quarry by the population for many decades.
