Czech philosopher, educator and theologian.

Comenius was buried in what was then the Walloon Church in Naarden (now the Comenius Museum).
As far as is known, this was only relationship between Comenius and Naarden.

Statue of the famous Czech philosopher, didactician and theologian Jan Amos Comenius who, after a life of wandering and a stay in Poland, chose the side of Charles X of Sweden in the Swedish-Polish War. He was granted asylum in Amsterdam, died in 1670 and was buried in Naarden for reasons that have not yet been clarified. His grave was traced in the 20th century in the former Walloon Church, which for a long time was part of the former Orphanage Barracks in the Kloosterstraat. This space became a mausoleum that is visited annually by several thousand Czechs, Slovaks, Poles and other people interested in Comenius. The Comenius Museum is located next to the mausoleum. It houses a permanent exhibition that focuses on the life and work of Comenius. There are also changing exhibitions that deal with his life and work.
