This beautiful and imposing medieval castle receives between 50 and 70 thousand tourists annually. This cultural monument is considered the best example of castle transformation in the country and includes, among other things, architectural, historical and archaeological attractions.
Leiria Castle has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.
From the 17 m high keep you have a wonderful view over the city, the surrounding area and the adjacent stadium. Opening hours in summer 10am - 6pm, in winter except Mondays 9.30am-5.30pm, entrance fee: 2.10 €, children free. For families with children certainly worth a visit!
On the hill is the city's main historical landmark - the beautiful Castle of Leiria, built in the 12th century by order of the first king of Portugal. This castle has been remodeled and expanded over the centuries.
A visit is worthwhile and the castle can be easily reached via elevators both from the old town and from the large car park at the stadium.
