From this viewing platform you can look directly into the bison's enclosure!

“The last wild European bison was poached in 1921 in the Bialowie Forest in Poland.
In 1922, the world population of bison in enclosures was only 56 animals. Thanks to Dr. Kurt Priemel founded the 'International Society for the Conservation of the Wisent', the population was increased to around 3,000 animals today.
All animals are registered with their number and name in the Warsaw Stud Book.
By keeping this herd, the city of Kaiserslautern is making a valuable contribution to the preservation of this ancient animal species.”
