When the weather is nice you will be rewarded with incredible views. The feeling of being on an active volcano is incredible. If you expect lava flows and a large crater up there, you will be disappointed. One can only guess a possible crater. Above is a small "house" in which the measuring station is located. Further ahead is the summit book.
If you are looking for a little thrill, you should absolutely dare the ascent. He is not too heavy, but you should be well prepared. The weather can make you fast. Especially the fog, then the orientation is difficult.

The hike up Mount Hekla was our personal highlight of our second trip to Iceland. The tour requires a lot of fitness, the main problem is finding the way, which can sometimes be quite treacherous.
