Long ago a shoemaker from Hossingen was charged by the court of domination. His execution seemed inevitable. They agreed on a judgment of God in the form of a one-sided ordeal. The accused shoemaker had to make on the Schuhmacherfels in dizzying heights above the abyss a few shoes. He was not allowed to lose any of the counted material. The impeccably crafted shoes and the fact that he did not crash was then seen in court as evidence of his innocence. While in the official maps at a rock needle at the Muislochhöhle the name Schuhmacherfels is registered, the Ordal according to oral tradition to have taken place on the right side of the valley at the Hossinger ladder.

Viewpoint at Hohenberg near Birkweiler
The Schuhmacherfelsen is a vantage point on the west side of the Hohenberg. In the southeast, on a clear day, the view extends over a small piece of sea of vines to the Black Forest. In the west, the view extends over the Palatinate Forest with the castles of Trifels, Anebos and Münz, the Queichtal and the town of Annweiler as well as Wernersberg and Gräfenhausen.

The Schuhmacherfelsen also serves as a starting point for hang-gliders.
