The Grand Trianon was built in 1687 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart on the site of the former "Porcelain Trianon". Commissioned by Louis XIV in 1670 to escape the tedious pageantry of court life and to pursue his affair with Madame de Montespan, the Grand Trianon is perhaps the most refined architectural ensemble to be found on the royal estate of Versailles.

Built during the reign of Louis XIV in 1687 by Jules Hardouin Mansart, the Grand Trianon is undoubtedly the most refined palace in Versailles. From Louis XIV to Louis-Philippe, everyone has left their mark here. If the architecture and the decoration still date from Louis XIV, the furniture is that of Napoleon 1st, because Trianon, like Versailles, was emptied of its furniture during the revolution.
While Versailles is a garden of trees, Trianon is a garden of flowers. Its multicolored and fragrant flowerbeds have earned it the nickname “Le Palais de Flor” in reference to the goddess of flowers.
