The Tongerlohuys tells the Story of Roosendaal. Five icons take you on a journey through local history. Be charmed by the Liga girl, blessed by the pastor, taken along by the conductor, addressed by mayor Schoonheijt or surprised by a guest icon. Watch how the past is brought to life. And you, with your unique view of the past, can join in!
What was it like to work as a LiGA girl in the LiGA factory? What happened when Jan Munt's whistle sounded? Special storytellers walk around the Tongerlohuys. They supplement the stories about the history of Roosendaal with personal anecdotes and experiences. This makes a visit to the Tongerlohuys truly unforgettable. For children, there is a fun treasure hunt in the old rectory. This monumental building was built as a parsonage for the Norbertine monks from the abbey of Tongerlo (Belgium), who provided pastoral care in the nearby Sint Jan de Doperkerk. These monks are also known as white monks because of their light-coloured habit. In 1762, the Tongerlohuys was given its current form.

The Tongerlohuys at Molenstraat 2 in Roosendaal was a refugium of the Tongerlo Abbey.

It is a rectangular, basement, hipped building dating from 1762. It has two low wings at the front and a gallery on the garden side.

On both sides, the main building has an entrance with a Louis XV style stone frame. Some rooms in the main building still have the original stucco and fireplace. In the 19th century, when the building was in use as a rectory, a simple house chapel was set up. It is now a museum.
