According to tradition, a young shepherd found a statue of Mary and child on the hill of Mount Lussari while leading his sheep back to the valley. He took the statue to the priest, who kept it in the rectory. However, the statue always found its way back up the mountain. In consultation with the Patriarch of Aquileia, a chapel and later a church were built at the site, which became the destination of many pilgrims over the years.
