Although this park has the general name of 'Alameda' (Poplar Alley), it consists of three clearly defined areas: the actual Poplar Alley Promenade, the Santa Susana Oak Forest and the "Paseo da Ferradura" (Horseshoe Promenade). The Park of the Alameda has been the main reference point for walks and leisure for the people of Santiago since the 19th century, a pleasant place, a kind of natural living room.

Its convenient location, adjacent to part of the historic center and the magnificent panorama of the impressive east side of the city, make this park the most important garden in the city, which is also distinguished by its varied stock of trees and ornamental plants, such as the oak grove called "carballeira". , its magnificent eucalyptus trees or its portico with a great view of the horse chestnut trees of the Paseo da Ferradura.
