In front of the Cathedral of Santiago, in the Plaza del Obradoiro, you will see people crying, screaming, laughing, jumping and lying on the ground. You will see groups taking photos everywhere and celebrating (or mourning) the end of their experience on the Camino de Santiago.
Every day this place brings together people who come from all over the world on pilgrimage.
The cathedral is in the Gothic style, although the current façade has many neo-Gothic elements.
One of its best-known symbols is the botafumeiro. It is an immense silver censer that hangs from the ceiling inside the cathedral and is swung for solemn masses. Quite a spectacle.
Three other majestic buildings frame the square: Rajoy's palace, where the town hall is located, the Parador de Santiago and the rectorate of the university.

It is famous for being the place that, according to tradition, houses the tomb of the Apostle Santiago, making it one of the main pilgrimage destinations in Europe through the Camino de Santiago.
The building is a mix of architectural styles including Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque. The Obradoiro façade is particularly impressive and is one of the most recognizable symbols of the cathedral. In addition, the cathedral features the famous Botafumeiro, a huge censer used during certain liturgical celebrations.
