The Marinelli Bombardieri refuge is the Valtellina refuge with the strangest name. Located at 2750 meters above sea level, it was inaugurated in 1880 with the name of Rifugio Scerscen and two years later it was called Marinelli in honor of its creator, Damiano Marinelli. After the Second World War it was further enlarged thanks to the impulse of Luigi Bombardieri, mountaineer and writer. Here the panorama that opens before the eyes is simply spectacular.

The Marinelli-Bombardieri Refuge stands on a rocky spur, in a spectacular position above the Scerscen Valley.
From Carate, it can be reached by climbing through scree and moraine, skirting a small glacial lake, until the final climb leads to the panoramic clearing with a chapel and bell.
Spacious and welcoming, the refuge offers panoramic terraces, a refreshment room, and services: an ideal stopping point for those seeking refreshments or for those wishing to spend the night at high altitude.
