            After the cordoned-off part of the path (the view is beautiful) you pass under this suggestive rocky claw....then a steep zigzagging uphill section begins.....then take a breath and stop to enjoy the view (better in the afternoon with the sun reflecting on the lake)

                      The Alpe Gera Dam, located in the municipality of Lanzada in the upper Valmalenco, is one of the highest dams in Italy and an imposing structure in the heart of the Rhaetian Alps. Standing 160 meters high and 528 meters long, this concrete gravity dam forms an artificial reservoir at 2,128 meters above sea level, capable of holding 68 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to approximately 63,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

                      The dam is part of a major hydroelectric system that includes the Campo Moro, Lanzada, and Sondrio power plants, regulating the energy production of the Valmalenco. From the dam's crest, there is a spectacular view of the surrounding mountain landscape. The crest can also be reached via a 140-meter-long vertical elevator, one of the highest in Europe.

                      I recommend visiting the dam to appreciate the engineering grandeur and to admire the panorama from its summit. The surrounding area offers excellent hiking trails, ideal for those who love nature and mountain excursions.
