The Hauptstrasse (formerly Strasse der Liberation) is an important pedestrian street in Dresden and runs along the western part of the Inner Neustadt, from Blockhaus to the Artesian Well at Albertplatz. The street was built between 1687 and 1732 and was designed as one of the most important streets in the rebuilt Altendresden. After being destroyed in World War II, the street was rebuilt between 1974 and 1980 and transformed into a pedestrian zone. The street is crossed by two smaller streets near the Epiphany Church and is lined with plane trees, sculptures and fountains. The most important buildings on the street include the Dreikönigskirche, the Markthalle and the Kügelgenhaus.
