      The cultivated area fluctuates repeatedly.
      In 1748/49 it was 49 acres of vineyards(44).
      In 1791/92 66 acres 1 quarter were assessed for tax (45).
      In 1799 it is 67 acres 3 quarters 1 pint (46).
      During the 19th century it was constantly reduced.
      In 1887 it still made up 8.24 hectares in the community of Blankenberg (47).
      Cheap imports, changes in living conditions and the phylloxera devastation before the turn of the century put an end to viticulture.
      In 1907 the Blankenberg area was declared non-wine growing.
      Viewers perceive the vineyard slopes as a feature of the landscape around Blankenberg. In 1729 the city had “good lands, even roughly
      Wine wax, and lies pleasantly" (48).
      In 1740 there are "many vineyards there, some of which are quite good" (49). The yield and quality of the wine depend on the weather.
      For example, 1798 is a bad year for wine. There is a lack of growth in the entire area. From the electoral vineyards, especially from Virnenberg, only 10 ohms 14 quarters or around 15 hectoliters of red are produced
      2 ohms 14 quarters or about 3 hectoliters of white wine obtained. The rent master's final verdict is: "As far as the quality is concerned, it could be a mediocre wine" (50). The year 1857, in turn, brought an extremely good wine (51).
      In 1865 it was said that the "wine produced at locations up to 250 feet above sea level... in good years is little inferior to Ahr wine" (52).
      The attempts since 1985 to plant vines again in front of the southern city wall confirm this assessment.
