The 13th-century Katharinenturm is the main tower in the south of the city. First expanded into a youth hostel in 1935, it was finally set up as a museum in 1936. Today's local history museum shows objects relating to the history and life of the people in the town of Blankenberg.

"... The tower museum is located in the so-called Katharinenturm, also known as the Porzenturm, a gate tower from the 13th/14th century in the city of Blankenberg. The museum was founded in 1936. It provides information on four floors about the history of the city of Blankenberg, the city Hennef and the region, with a focus on cultural and historical aspects as well as the regional history associated with the town and the castle as the seat of power and administration.
Founded at the time and under the ideology of National Socialism, closed during the war and looted at the end of the war, the tower museum was rebuilt and furnished after the Second World War by the main teacher Gottfried Emans. Under his almost 34 years of responsibility, the collection was constantly expanded. ..."
