The market town of Ebensfeld is located on the Upper Main in western Upper Franconia between the Coburg region and Bamberg. Ebensfeld forms "The Gate to God's Garden" - embedded between the gently rising heights of the Franconian Jura in the south and the Eierberge mountains in the north.

From both sides of the Main valley greet the Staffelberg, the pilgrimage church of the Fourteen Saints, the Banz monastery - an international conference center of the Hanns Seidel Foundation - and the local mountain of the Ebensfelders, the Ansberg (Veitsberg) with the historic St. Vitus chapel, which from surrounded by the largest closed group of linden trees in Europe.

The community, divided by the Main, is located on the Upper Main in western Upper Franconia between the Coburg region and Bamberg, in the extreme west of the district of Lichtenfels am Gottesgarten. It is embedded between the gently rising heights of the Franconian Jura in the south and the Eierberge mountains in the north.

The first documented mention of Ebensfeld was in the year 802, when the brothers Gerhart and Ippin bequeathed goods in "uillis", including "Ebilihfeldono marcu" to the Fulda monastery for their salvation.[6]

The market right is documented for 1426, when the Bamberg bishop Friedrich confirmed that three markets may be held in the "dorff Ebensuelt" annually.[6] The place belonged to the Bishopric of Bamberg. In the 18th century, the Lichtenfels bailiwick of the Bamberg Bishopric held the village and community rule.

With the commissioning of the railway line from Bamberg to Neuenmarkt in 1846, the Ebensfeld station was opened. In 1862 Ebensfeld, including the district of Kutzenberg, was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Staffelstein. On August 28, 1892, the first fixed Main Bridge, an iron bridge with a clear width of 50 meters, was inaugurated
