On the dinxperwick.info homepage you can find a report by the Suderwick home association:

"OPEN BORDER GATE" between Suderwick and Dinxperlo commemorates peace and freedom
As a further invigorating element on the German-Dutch border between Suderwick and Dinxperlo, which runs in rural areas, the associations Heimatverein Suderwick, Bewaar't Olde, Dinxpers Belang and the Dinxperwick citizens' initiative set up an "OPEN border gate" during Europe Week 2021.
Where barbed wire fences separated people in the two world wars, there are now two wooden posts with doors that are always open right on the border. Symbolically, they can no longer be closed and block the way to the other country. A metal inscription on the post reminds us that we have been living peacefully together in freedom for more than 75 years. The "always open" gate is intended to make it clear that the border is no longer an obstacle.

It stands on the border at the junction of a Suderwicker Feldweg, which leads from the Osterhofweg to the Dinxperloer Keupenstraat. He has no name, but is called "Kornstraote" in his area. Why? In the past, Dutch grain was often transported across the border to the nearby Suderwicker Mühle Hübers under difficult conditions. Whether it made its way back to the neighboring country as ground flour mostly depended on the prices paid on either side of the border. It is said that not only grain was smuggled along this remote route. The name 'Kornstraote' is also attached to the gate. Soon it will also be a reminder of the old days of smuggling on a post on the Osterhofweg.

In Gelderland, gates of this type are very common at entrances to country estates or in the open countryside. This was inspiration for Freek Diersen from Dinxperlo to persuade the work group of the Suderwick home club to build the gate with him. It was deliberately decided not to set up a functioning gate here. With artistic freedom, it was deliberately constructed in such a way that it cannot be closed. It was also necessary to take account of the fact that it is possible for agricultural vehicles to drive through. The gate from one country to the other has become quite wide, but that says a lot symbolically."
