Probably at the end of the 13th century. Today's Stephanuskirche was built here as a fortified church on the foundations of a much older chapel. In the center of Kieselbronn. The church is the outstanding sight in the otherwise beautiful place.
Kieselbronn was first mentioned on January 6, 1100, when Bishop Johannes I von Speyer gave the village to Sinsheim Abbey.
There should be frescoes worth seeing in the interior. Unfortunately, I was denied access.

Built in the 13th century, St. Stephen's Church in Kieselbronn is surrounded by a double circular wall, revealing a part of its history at first glance. As a fortified church, it served as a refuge for parishioners in times of war and as a storage place for valuables. The choir tower with its loopholes and the building's thick walls bear witness to this purpose. The garden, a wooden storey above the nave, whose chambers served as storerooms, is also a typical feature of a fortified church. However, the garden of the Kieselbronn church was dismantled during renovation work at the end of the 18th century.

At its entrance, the church is guarded by a massive figure of the Archangel Michael, holding a large sword.
