The Hofburg in Vienna was the residence of the Habsburgs in Vienna from the 13th century until 1918 (with interruptions). Since 1945 it has been the official residence of the Austrian Federal President. It houses most of the Austrian National Library as well as various museums (including the Albertina) and the Federal Monuments Office. The irregular building complex, which grew over the course of around seven centuries, also includes two religious buildings: the Hofburg Chapel and the Augustinian Church.

The northern facade of the Hofburg in Vienna's 1st district, Innere Stadt, is known as the Michaelertrakt. The Michaelerplatz in front of it is one of the most beautiful squares in Vienna.
