"The Issumer Turm is a former residential tower and landmark of the Krefeld suburb of Linn. The listed building stands on the corner of Mauerstraße / Issumer Straße.
The tower was built in the 14th century as a so-called Burgmannshaus (small tower castle with farm buildings) and is named after his probably first feudal bearers - the knights of Issum, who came from the money-hungry. First occupied Lehnsnehmer was however 1430 Simon von Aldenbrüggen. Members of various Rhineland noble families, including the lords of Brempt, Eyll, Preuth, the Warth, Nievenheim and Hallberg, sat in the former castle back of Linn. After the tower had been structurally altered in the second half of the 18th century, sold the last noble owner of the tower, the Count Konstantin von Hallberg, the estate in 1854 to a Linner master carpenter. His heirs sold the Issumer tower in 1908 to the city of Krefeld. The Issumer Turm and its outbuildings have been privately owned since 2010. On April 6, 2016, the press reported that the property was up for sale.
The tower has a rectangular floor plan and 1.10 meters thick walls on the ground floor. Its three storeys rise above a cellar vault and are completed by a mansard roof. The building marks the southeastern corner of a rectangular courtyard. It is adjoined to the west - leaning against the former city wall - a one-story wing on a high basement level, the residential building of the building ensemble. Parallel to these two buildings lies the gatehouse to the north. Its most striking component is the round-arched gate, which is crowned by a baroque tail gable from the year 1775. The Burgmannshof Issumer Tower forms the southeastern counterpart to the Bakenhof on the northeast side of the city. As a castle fiefdom (Burgmannshof), the farm was awarded by the city's founder, the Count of Kleve, to a nobleman, probably the Knight of Issum. However, no document about this process has survived. The first surviving document concerns the enfeoffment of Simon von Aldenbrüggen by the Elector of Cologne in 1430. One of the more important feudal holders was Isenbrand von Preuth, the owner of Haus Kaldenhausen, who took over the tower in 1609 together with his wife Christine von Eyll.
