A crown with a diameter of 2.54 m winds around the top of the crossing tower and is said to commemorate the French Revolution lost original chandelier, which measured 7.60 m in cross-section and could be equipped with 342 candles.
This chandelier with five superimposed rings, made on the orders of Abbot Samuel, was adorned with 12 round and 12 square turrets of gilded silver, in which were placed silver figures of the 12 apostles.
The fame of this chandelier was so great that the monastery and the city were named "Kronweißenburg" after it. The crown of lights was seen as an image of Heavenly Jerusalem.
The district director Stichaner later donated a crown that actually did not correspond to the Gothic style and was therefore not hung inside the church. However, Weißenburg citizens campaigned for the city name "Kronweißenburg" to be preserved and therefore for the crown to be attached to the top of the tower.
