In 1798 Gottlob Imanuel LATTERMANN from Leipzig acquired the Morgenröther plant. His son Heinrich Ludwig LATTERMANN had a new high furnace built in 1799. In 1820 he did it again. This is the factory's last charcoal blast furnace, which was shut down in 1874 and can be visited by interested parties in Morgenröthe at any time.
From 1864 the production of bells, mainly as striking bells for tower clocks, can be verified. For this purpose, an iron alloy developed by LATTERMANN, the sonorous cast iron, was used. From 1918 this was done in cooperation with the SCHILLING/Apolda company. From 1918 to 1968, the year the Morgenröther foundry went under, almost 10,000 church bells were verifiably delivered to 22 countries around the world.

The technical monument is the last evidence of iron processing in the Vogtland and the largest of its kind in Saxony. An association takes care of it and also offers guided tours. The site itself is freely accessible.
