Alum used to be mined here, after the fabric was no longer in demand, the excavation degenerated into a garbage dump. This was removed and renatured by hard-working citizens through heartfelt action. Now it is a beautiful, unspoilt biotope.

"Alumen, Latin for alum, means alumina salt. Already used in antiquity and in the Middle Ages, the exact composition of alum was not known at the time.
