For your information:
An official fire pit does not mean you can simply light a fire there.
Generally, smoking and lighting fires are prohibited in the forest from February 15th to October 31st. Fire pits must be rented from the Harz Club or the forest manager. In some cases, it is even forbidden to collect firewood from the forest. The same applies to barbecue areas. Huts with a fire pit almost always have a chimney and a spark arrestor inside the hut (a metal pipe with a metal tray) for ventilation.
