The Place de la Concorde is located at the foot of the Avenue des Champs-Elysées. It is distinguished today by the obelisk of Louxor (dating back to 3300 years before Christ and erected in October 1836), by the prestigious hotels that line it and by the two monumental fountains ((Fontaine des Mers and Fontaine des Fleuves). Created In 1772, the Place de la Concorde was first known to have been the place of execution during the French Revolution. Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette (among others) were guillotined there. It is between 1836 and 1846 that the architect Jacques-Ignace Hittorf has designed the plaza to make it the one we know today.

The maritime fountain has six colossal figures representing the Ocean, the Mediterranean, fish fishing, coral fishing and pearls and shells. Swans mingle with three geniuses symbolizing Maritime Navigation, Commerce and Astronomy. The fountain was added to the Place de la Concorde between 1836 and 1840.

Here one arrives well with the metro (own stop). The square offers views of Eiffel Tower, Triumph Arch and Tuileries. Also, here is the obelisk.

The oldest monument in Paris was built less than 200 years ago: the Obelisk, landmark of the capital such as the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre, has graced the Place de la Concorde since 1836 - but dates back to the 13th century BC. This means that when the monolith was struck in the quarries of Aswan at the time of Ramses II, at most there was a Neolithic settlement on the site of today's metropolis.

The exotic monument in the heart of Paris can be explained by the fascination the West felt for the strange, legendary Egypt since the end of the 18th century. Obelisks were also made to Rome, London, New York or Istanbul - regardless of the cost. The adventurous, six-year journey of the Parisian granite colossus - from the upper reaches of the Nile to the banks of the Seine - now illuminates an exhibition at the Musée Nationale de la Marine for the first time.

The Place de la Concorde was built between 1755 and 1776 on behalf of King Louis XV. Its original name was Place Louis XV and at the center of the square at the time was an equestrian statue of the king. During the unrest of the French Revolution, the statue was replaced by a Statue of Liberty and the square was renamed Place de la Révolution. In 1793, the famous guillotine was erected here, where King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette, as well as another 1,117 people, were publicly executed. With the end of the revolutionary period, the square got its current name, Place de la Concorde.
