On the eastern slope of the Eggegebirge, near the village of Borlinghausen, lies a beech forest complex on rugged sandstone cliffs and block debris. The approximately 15 m high, steeply sloping cliff of the Teutonia cliffs offers rewarding views - both in the landscape of the Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge and in the abyss on the impressive rock formations and the fallen, massive rocks. The site is located in the area of a abandoned iron ore mine. At the former mining sites are still collapsed tunnels, pits, dumps and pinging as witnesses of the iron industry. Through the purchase of the forest by the Teutonia society, the now natural and unspoiled area around the cliff area was named Teutonia cliffs. Many spring outcrops - surrounded by lush cabbage vegetation such as ferns, horsetails and grasses - as well as a diverse vegetation make up a remarkable landscape.

The name Alte Eisenbahn refers to a construction site of the Köln-Minden-Thüringischen-Verbindungs-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (KMTVEG) of 1847, which remained unfinished after its bankruptcy as an investment ruin. It was planned to run the later railway line Hamm-Warburg from Paderborn via Borchen and Lichtenau to Borlinghausen. At the heart of the entire area was the tunnel construction that had already begun, which had already been completed by the time construction was discontinued. The public was told that the end of the construction was caused by permanent flooding. Later, the construction was blown up for safety reasons.
