On site you can only see a large square and an information board with very interesting photos and texts.
In the underground there is a (now) closed cave, which is known for its geological and archaeological finds. This cave was formed many millions of years ago when the limestone of a sea limestone reef was washed out here. Source:

The area here is currently cordoned off with tree trunks so that no tractors, cars or larger groups drive or enter the area, because according to a report by the State Office for Geology, the Herxheim karst cave is in danger of collapsing.

The first part of the hike unfortunately leads on relatively much asphalted paths, but the second part is all the more beautiful - there is a lot of pristine nature between these rocks - and at the end it is definitely worth a visit to Herxheim next to the winegrowers' cooperative The wine lounge is definitely highly recommended - the most wonderful view, pleasant ambience, very good cuisine and delicious wines round off this hike
